Industrial Rooftop Solar Cost: What Factories Should Evaluate

What drives industrial rooftop solar cost—module and BOS specs, structure, interconnection, and how to read EPC proposals without relying on a single ₹/Wp number.

Industrial buyers often start with one question: what will rooftop solar cost? A single ₹/Wp headline is rarely enough. Cost depends on roof type, structural strengthening, cable routes, LT/HT interfaces, shade, module and inverter class, and the documentation pack your plant and lenders expect.

This guide explains how Rolling Energy approaches industrial rooftop solar costing for factories and warehouses—so you can compare proposals on engineering substance, not marketing.

What “cost” should include

A bankable industrial quote typically covers:

  • Modules, inverters, mounting structure, and DC/AC cabling sized to your SLD
  • ACDB/DCDB, earthing, lightning protection, and metering interfaces
  • Structural assessment and any strengthening required for industrial roofs
  • Installation, testing, commissioning, and as-built documentation
  • Monitoring / SCADA scope and O&M options

Exclusions matter. Net-metering fees, DISCOM deposits, civil works outside the EPC boundary, and major roof remediation should be explicit.

Site and tariff considerations

C&I sites vary widely: industrial sheds, PEB warehouses, RCC buildings, and multi-building campuses. Yield assumptions must reflect local irradiance, soiling in industrial corridors, and realistic downtime for cleaning access.

Tariff structure—energy charges, demand charges, and ToD slabs—shapes payback more than module brand alone. Pair any cost discussion with a solar ROI model and your last 12 months of bills.

How to evaluate EPC proposals

Ask every bidder for:

1. Generation estimate methodology and degradation assumptions 2. Structural design basis and wind load criteria 3. Protection philosophy and cable schedules 4. Warranty matrix (module, inverter, workmanship) 5. Safety method statements for live industrial sites
